Susie Orbach Lecture in Sydney

Upcoming Public Lecture

Navigating Our Culture's Body Anxiety

An Evening With Susie Orbach

Susie OrbachTuesday 20th August 2013
8 - 9.30pm
Footbridge Theatre, The University of Sydney
Pedestrian Over-bridge
Parramatta Road

Susie will explore the multiple pressures which have combined to create body insecurity. She will look at the role of visual culture and the ways in which the family setting is now fraught around food and body image issues, aided by industries who profit from creating body unhappiness. Susie will argue that just as we understand our psyche as being the outcome of early relationships, so too is the body. She will suggest ways to fight back to claim the body as a place to live from rather than be victimised by the style and diet industries.
