Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies (AT-P)

The RANZCP awards the Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies Certificate (Cert. Psychotherapy Psych) following satisfactory completion of the program (and post- FRANZCP). The SATPSY determines the eligibility of awarding the certificate.

The RANZCP accredits several affiliated courses including the Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies (AT-P) conducted by The Psychotherapies Education Association (TPEA). Access to AT-P on this Psychotherapies website is restricted to those approved RANZCP Advanced Trainees currently enrolled in the TPEA Courses.

This integrated psychotherapy training program is available only to Psychiatrists and Psychiatry trainees and Psychiatry Career Medical Officers. The purpose of the TPEA Advanced Training Program in Psychotherapies is to prepare trainee Psychiatrists and Consultants to practice at an advanced level in the psychotherapies as an integral part of Psychiatric treatment.

AT-P supplies the “keystones” to bind, support and enhance all clinical learning. This knowledge and experience allows Psychiatrists to work effectively with the widest range of patients in real practice, get the specialist skills to change patients’ lives and to create a solid foundation for careers in private & public practice.

Completion of the TPEA Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies course will satisfy the RANZCP AT-Psychotherapies Certificate requirements. Fellowship of the RANZCP must be achieved before the AT-Psych Certificate is awarded. ATPSY components are often finalised at the Trainee's own pace. However, the RANZCP regulations require the certificate to be completed within 6 years. After that time currency of the Training must be considered by the SATPSY.

Psychiatry registrars can pursue Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies while working in many other Advanced Training posts and while concurrently working towards other (joint) Advanced Training certificates.
